Vocational Evaluations ::
A Vocational Evaluation analyzes the impact of physical and/or mental impairments on the individual's employability. Age, education, past work and limitations are evaluated to determine the individual's ability to access to the labor market. Labor market conditions are reported to clarify the existence and availability of jobs. Wages associated with those jobs are also reported. VIEW SAMPLE REPORT
Social Security Disability Evaluations ::
A Social Security Disability Evaluation assesses the claimant’s ability to perform work in jobs that exist in significant numbers in the national and regional economy. Factors of age, education, past relevant work, residual functional ability are analyzed to determine if the claimant can return to past work, has skills that transfer to other work, can do unskilled work or is unable to work altogether. After pre-screening the case for appropriateness of referral, a review of the records and an in-person interview are conducted. The report uses terminology familiar to the Administrative Law Judge. The evaluation report often can lead to an on the record finding of “disabled”. VIEW SAMPLE REPORT
Vocational Consultation ::
Mr. Thomas consults with attorneys and adjusters concerning the vocational merits of the case. Working undisclosed to the opposing side, he can evaluate the vocational issues and offer an informal opinion on the claimant’s/plaintiff’s employability. He also can make recommendations concerning the type of evidence needed to develop the vocational matters in the case. He can critique the opposing side’s expert’s opinion. In addition, he can help counsel develop questions to pose to the other side’s expert in deposition or live testimony.
Transferable Skills Analysis (TSA) ::
A formal skills analysis utilizes sophisticated software to fully evaluate a person’s skills developed from past work. Those skills are then compared to the base of occupations that the skills are used in. That base is then reduced by limiting occupations that the person can no longer do as a result of impairments. The resulting list of occupations is then compared to labor market conditions, pre and post disability, to help reach an opinion about employability and wage ranges.
Always consider conducting your own TSA in cases where the other side has used one. Also consider having the other side’s TSA evaluated by your own expert.
TSA s are valuable tools to use in litigated claims and also in job placement activities.

Thomas Vocational Consulting can provide you with up to date data on labor market conditions in any market area. This can include government produced data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. It can include data obtained through contact with actual employers in the labor market. Research can be done to determine the accuracy of the opposing side’s conclusions.
Job Analysis ::
An on-site job analysis involves a video-tape of the actual job site and job. It also contains a narrative description of the job, including a complete assessment of the essential functions of the job and worker characteristics. The Job Analysis is used to obtain physician approval for the worker to perform the job duties. It also is used in employment discrimination cases to clarify the essential job functions.
